Happy weekend everyone! I want to take this opportunity to clarify two things in this week's blog post.

1. In regards to the Read Aloud, I will officially be starting it next week. Only I will have a copy of the book because I will be reading it aloud to the students. As I am the only one with a copy in the class, I plan on omitting the parts of the story that may be too mature for our young audience and at times, I will be altering some words in order to ensure that it is appropriate. With all that in mind, I think that the book is fantastic because it fits well into our Social Studies unit and it also allows us to talk about some of the more challenging topics of the curriculum within the context of a fictional character.

2. Secondly, our main project for our Social Studies unit will be an Instagram account of either Champlain or Cartier. The students will be given a large piece of poster paper with a blank Instagram profile printed on it. They will have to "publish" 9 Instagram posts regarding their chosen explorer by providing 9 pictures, each with a caption and some hashtags. The students will have three options regarding their pictures: 1) they can draw the pictures 2) they can print the pictures off the internet or 3) they can take the pictures themselves using costumes and props. I am really looking forward to this project as it will be a good opportunity for the students to learn how to research a topic, for them to practice their past tense verbs and for us to talk about the permanency of social media far before they get their first Facebook or Instagram account.

Lastly, here's this week's vocabulary words: actuellement, silencieusement, normalement, également, heureusement and lentement.
