Study Abroad

In my third year of university, I spent a semester abroad: I exchanged to Paris and attended SciencesPo. The classes that I took at SciencesPo were the most interesting courses of my degree: the History of Rock 'n' Roll and the Politics Behind French Opera to name a few. Participating in a Go Global exchange with UBC was one of the best decisions of my life. Not only did exchange allow me to practice my French language skills, but I gained a much better understanding of the French culture and of myself: I had the opportunity to explore Europe and to discover my capabilities. From chatting with my host family over dinners to spending my breaks between classes at the Louvre, I have nothing but incredible memories of my time in Paris.

Explore

After my first year of university, I went to Québec in order to practice the French language. As a student of the Explore program, I took part in a five week language  program based out of Trois-Rivières. There I attended classes in the morning that focused on grammar and comprehension follwed by ateliers about Québecois culture in the afternoon. Over the weekends, we were able to visit Montréal and Québec City. Not only did the program give me the opportunity to explore my own country, but those five weeks also allowed me to take what I knew about the language and actually use it in an oral capacity. Being completely immersed in the French language forced me to break that barrier between knowing how and actually doing.
