Two weeks until Winter Break!
All major assessments are done and our Gifts of Kindness unit is well under way. The students have created cards for our Music teacher and our librarian, given each other compliments, and were encouraged to hold open the door for someone. This week, we also did a lot of work on analysing text by implementing the "I see, I think, I wonder" method. The students explored this method by analysing two commercials about kindness: one about a lunch box and another from Coca Cola. To finish off the week, the students did a writing assignment for me explaining which commercial they thought was a better example of kindness.
Alongside this theme in English and French, the students also did a lot of work with decimals in Math. We will continue to work on decimals this week and I will also introduce fractions as well. I gave the students a quick quiz today just to see where they are currently at with decimals in order to guide my instruction over the last two weeks.
In these last two weeks, we will work on fractions/decimals, cursive writing, a few more reading strategies and of course, kindness. As part of our Gifts of Kindness unit, the students and I plan on going to a retirement home on Friday to read books to the residents. Just waiting on confirmation, but be on the look out for a field trip form on Monday!
Finally, our vocabulary words for this week are donner, rendre, sourire, heureux/heureuse, gentil, gentillesse, and monde.
