The students had a TTOC for most of the week as I was in Vancouver for my graduation, but they completed many tasks nonetheless: they finished off an addition/subtraction unit in Math, finished their biome projects which are now sealed and ready for Mme Kirby's class and completed a quiz on story elements.

This week, we spent quite a bit of time talking about important story elements such as main characters, setting, the problem and its solution. Rather than reading these elements in text, we analysed them in Pixar short films. The students now have a good understanding of those key elements that make up a story and in combination with their knowledge of theme and supporting details, we should be able to begin writing our own stories next week or the following one.

Their vocabulary words for next week will be in English and all based on contractions: couldn't, shouldn't, wouldn't, can't, won't, don't, isn't, hasn't and didn't.

Also next week, we will be wrapping up our book report unit in French and doing some reading assessments in anticipation of the report cards that are fast approaching. If your child struggles with reading, I would encourage them to read to you nightly in order to practice!

Last quick note: I will be sending home the two complimentary Christmas concert tickets with your child on Monday. They are a hot commodity so make sure that they make their way into your hands!
