Welcome Winter! I hope that everyone got around town safely this week with all the ice and snow on the roads. Just a friendly reminder that the students need indoor shoes for the classroom/gymnasium now that there is snow on the ground outside.
This week we had a Halloween dance, we watched a Young Peoples Concert at the Sagebrush about Growth Mindset and we did an activity outside with cameras. The students started interactive notebooks on French grammar in order to prepare for their biome projects and we also continued talking about story elements. As we will explore story elements further, there will be no new vocabulary words this week (story, character, theme, idea, setting and conflict).
Our focus for this upcoming week will be the biome project, character traits/character development and addition/subtraction practice.
Alongside the curriculum, we will also be exploring and focusing on the 3rd P of my classroom constitution: positivity. As a class, we've spent a lot of time discussing the importance of talking positively about others and about ourselves. We've also had the opportunity to learn about the power of compliments. Likewise, the students have also completed a few activities in which they were encouraged to compliment another classmate and/or do one thing that would improve someone else's day. Today we saw a TedTalk reminding us that we all have the power to affect the lives of others. With these past learning experiences as a foundation, we will continue to grow our understanding of positivity and to learn how we can foster positivity in our classroom community.
