Here's our week in review!
1. We've continued on expanding our Daily 5 by adding in "Reading to a Partner". As of now, students are doing daily silent reading, weekly word study, and reading with a partner once a week. This upcoming week's vocabulary words are risks, mistakes, perseverance, effort, success, and creativity (we alternate between French and English each week).
2. In English, we continued our discussion about the growth mindset: the students were asked to identify three things that they can do and one thing that they can't do yet. This activity led into a conversation about the power of the word yet and into a project where they elaborated on their capabilities.
3. In Science, we've been talking about BC's biomes and will begin an "Escape Room" project next week!
4. In Math, we've done a lot of work on estimation and addition in real-world contexts. There will be a short quiz on these concepts this Wednesday.
5. In French, I have the class started on an online and gamified grammar/spelling program called Duolingo. So far, we've only used the program in the computer lab, but eventually, it is my hope to send the passwords and usernames home with them so that they are able to do a bit of practice after school every night. Stay tuned!
Lastly, Parent-Teacher interviews are just around the corner. If you're hoping to meet with me to discuss your child's progress thus far, feel free to sign up for a 15-minute time slot that works for you using the following link.
